There are a lot of sofa manufacturers on the German furniture market. With our list we would like to bring a little light into the darkness. We present 10 of the most famous German sofa manufacturers. Many of them still say “Made in Germany”. The photos were taken at the international furniture and interior design fair | imm cologne 2020. The booths of the sofa manufacturers Rolf Benz, Koinor, Cor, Walter Knoll and Bretz have remained in our memory.

Rolf Benz – nothing but wunderbar

Rolf Benz is probably the best known German upholstered furniture brand and since its inception has stood for good design and quality workmanship. If the sofa manufacturer used to stand for luxury and brought a touch of decadence with it, it has already arrived in the middle of society for some time.

With the idea of the living landscape, the trained upholsterer Rolf Benz founded the company “bmp” (Benz Möbel Programme) in 1964 to develop novel and functional sofas. The somewhat bumpy company name was changed to “Rolf Benz” in 1972. In the following years, the company developed into the market leader in the high-quality upholstered furniture segment.

Company founder Rolf Benz left the company in 1998. The Hüls(ta) Group became the company owner. Since 2018, the sofa manufacturer from Baden-Württemberg has been in Chinese hands.

Probably the most famous Rolf Benz sofas are the “322”, “6500”, “Linea” and “Dono”. The Rolf Benz 2000 living landscape gained fame through its TV presence. For years, Wetten Dass host Thomas Gottschalk welcomed his guests on this upholstered furniture.

Koinor – Sofas von Freunden für Freunde.

For over 60 years, Koinor has been producing high-quality upholstered furniture for sitting and relaxing. As a self-proclaimed specialist in function, innovation and design, the sofa manufacturer is one of the best sofa brands in the world. About 500 sofas leave production every day and are delivered to dealers throughout Europe and worldwide.

Already 3 years before the official foundation, in 1953, the first furniture was produced in an old kiosk. As early as 1960, 60 employees were working for Koinor and, with the help of the latest technology, increased production considerably. Today, hundreds of thousands of square meters of leather and fabric are processed into high-quality seating furniture by long-serving employees.

brühl – feelinggood

The cornerstone of its entrepreneurial activity. The headquarters was moved to Bad Steben and originally positioned itself as a manufactory for mattress and upholstered furniture. The focus early on was on the production of high-quality, ecological and sustainable furniture. For its exemplary environmental friendliness, the sofa manufacturer brühl was the first furniture manufacturer in Germany to be awarded the “Blue Angel” eco-label in 2009.

Many excellent designs originate from Roland Meyer-Brühl and his wife Gitta. Even today, in the third generation, daughter Kati designs modern upholstered furniture, complementing the classic collection.

COR seating furniture – timeless elegance

The “factory for the production of seating furniture” was founded in 1954 by Helmut Lübke. The current name COR is derived from the company logo, which is adorned with a heart (Latin: cor). COR stands for new seating forms and already in 1964 placed an absolute upholstered furniture classic: Conseta, one of the first modular systems, designed by Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller.

Sustainability in raw material procurement and production and the associated environmental protection play an important role in the corporate culture. All woods come from 100 percent sustainably managed forests. Selected materials for the upholstery and the covers make every COR sofa a high-quality piece of designer furniture.

Since 2013, Conseta and other furniture, on board the MS EUROPA 2 go on a great journey. 251 suites with 681 pieces of furniture were equipped by COR.

Walter Knoll – furniture brand of modernity

In 1865, the foundation stone was laid for the Knoll furniture dynasty, in which many family strands intertwine. Walter Knoll first developed aluminum chairs for Zeppelins in 1907 and founded “Walter Knoll & Co.” in Stuttgart in 1925, together with Paul Hahn. Since 1937, production has taken place in Herrenberg, Württemberg.

True to the motto “Restrained like a gentleman”, the sofa manufacturer Walter Knoll produces furniture with modern design and architectural clarity. With the best raw materials, finest workmanship and excellent craftsmanship, Walter Knoll sofas design living spaces.

Countless awards for many classics of today, the company received through collaboration with designers such as Norman Foster, Claudio Bellini and the Viennese design team eoos.

He was the first manufacturer to specialize in the mass production of Bauhaus furniture.
